Kevin Heuer

(pronouns: he/him/his)

Kevin spends most of his days hanging out at the intersection of giving and action for the greater good. Each passing day is a chance to learn from and assist generous souls and community problem solvers. Kevin’s job is to help Community Foundation Santa Cruz County succeed in inspiring philanthropy and accomplishing great things. As Director of Engagement & Impact he oversees community grantmaking, scholarships, and communications, and scouts new opportunities to grow the Foundation’s impact.

His Rust Belt roots run deep but Kevin’s been pleased to call Santa Cruz County home since 2005. After organizing to rebuild homes in post-Katrina New Orleans, Kevin came to understand service as the purpose of life, not something to do in just your spare time.

Kevin started with the Foundation as part of the grantmaking team in 2008 while earning a masters in nonprofit administration. He went on to Second Harvest Food Bank Santa Cruz County where he honed his skills in finely-run operations, program delivery, and partnership development as the Chief Operations Officer. He’s also been a program manager, grant writer, neighborhood organizer, and volunteer manager. Kevin’s belief in the power of place-based philanthropy brought him back to work at Community Foundation Santa Cruz County in 2017.

Kevin is faithful to the American tradition of forming and participating in voluntary organizations with soft spots for fair housing, food justice and community supported agriculture, pediatric cancer support, and community radio. When not listening for the latest local nonprofit impact, you can find him hunting vinyl record bins for funk, soul, Detroit garage rock, and left-field gems.
